Burberry Group plc has appointed Alan Stewart has been appointed to its board as a non-executive director and member of the audit and nomination committees.
Stewart is a non-executive director on the boards of Diageo plc and Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, where he chairs the audit committee and the remuneration committee respectively. He was previously a non-executive director and audit committee chair of Games Workshop Group plc from 1996 to 2009.
Stewart was chief financial officer of Tesco PLC from 2014 to 2021 and before that, from 2010 to 2014, he was chief financial officer of Marks & Spencer PLC.
Stewart has also served as chief financial officer of AWAS, group finance director of WH Smith PLC and CEO and CFO of Thomas Cook Holdings. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte.
Stewart chaired the Accounting 4 Sustainability CFO network for four years until his retirement in 2021 and is a member of Chapter Zero.
