Greencoat UK Wind Plc has announced the appointment of Jim Smith to its board as a non-executive director of the company. He will also become a member of the company’s audit, management engagement and nominations committees, effective from 1 May 2023.

Smith, after starting his career as a first engineer (Generation) with the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board, has 34 years’ experience within the electricity industry at SSE. He held a number of senior roles across the group, ranging from development and engineering to management. He became MD of SSE in 2018, and retired from the company in April 2022.

Smith is also a NED of Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, a public and private sector partnership, and a renewable energy ambassador for consultancy COWI.
