Large shareholders could vote against the reappointment of Sports Direct chairman Keith Hellawell when the AGM takes place on 7 September, according to The Guardian.
The paper notes 24% of the votes from independent shareholders went against him last year and quotes a fund manager saying he could face a bigger vote opposing his continuing in post.
The new follows the appearance of Sports Direct’s founder Mike Ashley at a select committee at which he conceded the company had become too big for him to manage.
The fund manager is quoted by The Guardian as saying Ashley’s admission is an “indictment of every member of the board”.
