Speedy Hire
Tools and equipment business Speedy Hire has named David Shearer as its new chairman. Shearer will succeed Jan Åstrand from 1 October 2018.
Shearer has served as a non-executive on its board since 2016. He said he was looking forward to helping the business deliver its growth strategy, and working with chief executive Russell Down and the rest of the board.
Åstrand said Shearer had “considerable internal experience” and is a valued member of its board.
Barclays
Mary Anne Citrino is to take a non-executive director role at Barclays from next week.
Citrino is an experienced board member, currently holding roles at Ahold Delhaize, Alcoa Corporation, Hewlett Packard and Dollar Tree Stores.
Her executive career was developed through senior roles at both Blackstone and Morgan Stanley.
Group chairman John McFarlane said she will bring “strong commercial acumen, together with experience of the financial services sector”.
BTG
Life sciences business BTG appointed Sue Foden as it new remuneration committee chair, but the move came amid a shareholder revolt against its remuneration report and chairman Garry Watts.
Foden joined the board in 2015, and holds non-executive roles at BerGenBio, Evgen Pharma and Vectura Group.
However, her new position came as shareholders raised dissatisfaction at continued performance-based payouts in place for former FD Rolf Soderstrom until next year.
The board noted the large dissent over the two votes, stating “the company is fully committed to continuing to engage with shareholders and proxy advisers in relation to these matters”.
Foden will no doubt be involved in the consultation with shareholders also announced by the board, on its group remuneration policy before being put to the 2019 AGM for approval.
