Stuart Rose has been appointed as chair of supermarket giant Asda.
Lord Rose is a former chief executive and executive chair of Marks & Spencer, and has held executive roles at the Burton Group, Argos, Booker and Arcadia. He spent seven years as chair of Ocado and is currently chair of Zenith Automotive and the EG Group.
Meanwhile, Dame Alison Carnwath will join the Asda board as a non-executive director. Earlier this year, Dame Alison was appointed to the EG Group board and leads its audit committee.
Both Lord Rose and Dame Alison will take up their new board roles on 1 December.
Asda co-owners Mohsin and Zuber Issa commented: “We are pleased to have Lord Rose and Dame Alison join the board of Asda. They have already provided invaluable support and wisdom to the board of EG Group, and we know their insight and experience will add huge value at Asda too.”
