Rio Tinto CEO Jean-Sébastien Jacques is to step down owing to investor pressure over the company’s destruction of the Juukan Gorge Aboriginal caves in Australia.
Jacques will leave the company by the end of March 2021. Two other senior executives—Chris Salisbury and Simone Niven—will leave by the end of this year.
The mining giant blew up two 46,000-year-old rock shelters in May, in order to expand an iron ore mine in Pilbara, Western Australia.
