ASOS plc has announced the appointment of William Barker as a non-executive director.

Barker is the founder and CEO of Camelot Capital Partners LLC, a California-based investment management company. He is also the executive chair of Tapi Carpets & Floors, executive chair of Synnovia, a UK manufacturing conglomerate, and is also a founding investor and board member of Re:Build Manufacturing.

Previously, Barker was an adviser to Tony Hsieh, the former CEO of Zappos, an online shoe and clothing retailer based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Camelot Partners holds 16,722,381 ordinary shares in ASOS, representing 14.02% of its issued share capital. Given Barker’s relationship with Camelot Partners, a significant shareholder, he joins the board as a non-independent non-executive director in accordance with the UK Corporate Governance Code 2018,

Jørgen Lindemann, ASOS chair, said: “ASOS has a long-standing relationship with William as shareholder and strong supporter of the company, and I am delighted that William has now agreed to join the board. He brings a wealth of retail and commercial experience alongside a deep knowledge and understanding of the ASOS business. We look forward to working closely with him as the business continues on its journey to sustainable, profitable growth.”
