Antofagasta plc has announced the appointment of Heather Lawrence to its board as an independent non-executive director and member of the company’s audit and risk committee.

Lawrence has significant non-executive directorship experience, and is currently a NED and the audit committee chair of manufacturer Melrose Industries. Previously, she has been a non-executive director of Coats Group and Wizz Air, and a non-executive director and the audit committee chair of FlyBe.

Lawrence, a qualified chartered accountant, has also held senior roles at Citigroup and Schroders.

Jean-Paul Luksic, Antofagasta’s chair, commented: “Following a comprehensive externally-facilitated search process, we are delighted that Heather has accepted our invitation to join the board. Her international background and recent and relevant financial experience will be of great benefit to the company in the years ahead.”
