BT Group plc has announced that Maggie Chan Jones and Ruth Cairnie are being appointed to the telecoms company’s board as independent NEDs.
Chan Jones’ appointment is effective 1 March and she will become a member of the nominations and digital impact & sustainability committees. Cairnie joins the board on 6 April 2023, as a member of the audit & risk, remuneration and nominations committees.
Cairnie will also become senior independent director when Iain Conn steps down at the end of the AGM in July. At the same time, she will assume the chair of the remuneration committee, as Sir Ian Cheshire is also stepping down.
Cairnie is currently chair of Babcock International Group plc and senior independent director of Associated British Foods plc. A former EVP for group strategy and planning at Shell, she has also been a NED of Rolls Royce. She is leading the judging panel at the Non-Executive Director Awards 2023.
Chan Jones is the founder and CEO of Tenshey, a tech-enabled executive coaching company. Her career in marketing led her to hold senior positions at Microsoft and SAP. She joined the board of The Sage Group as a non-executive director in December last year.
BT Group’s chair, Adam Crozier, said: “The board is delighted to welcome Maggie and Ruth, both of whom will add significant breadth of experience and diversity of thought to the board. Both will be key in support of the important transformation agenda ahead for BT Group.”
