Environmental, social and governance (ESG) associated opportunities and risks are becoming more and more relevant for financial institutions. The banking industry in particular is facing mounting pressure to meet fast-changing demands in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

Regulators, customers and investors are increasing their scrutiny of of the effects investment and lending decisions have on climate and society, and are concerned about purpose and sustainability.

This raises a number of key questions for boards to ask and work through. How to identify new opportunities and build the capabilities to adapt to this landscape?  What are the gaps that can already be identified? Who in the bank is responsible for ESG at executive and board levels?

Is the company measuring, reporting, and disclosing ESG information that is critical to understanding both strategic intent, risks, and opportunities?

To help forge a route through these issues, Board Agenda, together with event partner Diligent, is hosting a complementary breakfast briefing for board directors, and senior corporate executives in the banking industry. the date and venue for the event is 21st September, The Ivy, 9 West Street, London, WC2H 9NE.

At this exclusive in-person event  representatives from regulatory authorities, senior board members and ESG advisers to the banking industry will review the implications of recent and emerging regulatory expectations, how governance and compliance professionals in the banking industry should prepare their companies, plus the key questions boards should be asking.

Chaired by Board Agenda editor Gavin Hinks, panel discussion topics will include:

  • Emerging ESG regulation in the UK & EU banking sector
  • The impact of The Financial Services and Markets Act 2023
  • Implications for banks, opportunities for growth and competitive advantage.
  • The evolving ESG disclosure landscape, upcoming standards & deadlines
