Bupa has announced the appointments of Ed Giera and Annette Court as non-executive directors.

Giera will join the board on 1 August 2026 and become a member of the audit, risk, clinical governance & oversight, and nomination & governance committees. Court will join on 1 September and be a member of the audit, risk, remuneration, and nomination & governance committees.

Ed Giera is a financial services veteran, with more than 40 years’ experience as an executive and non-executive director in international capital markets and risk management. He currently serves as a non-executive director and chair of the board risk committee of UK pension insurance company Rothesay Life plc, where he has been a NED since 2021. Giera previously served as senior independent director and chair of the board risk committee of Santander UK plc, and as a non-executive director and chair of the board audit & risk committee at Pension Insurance Corporation Group Limited. As an executive, he was MD and global head of Pensions Risk Advisory, and prior to that held senior roles with the investment banking affiliate of JP Morgan Chase & Co.

Annette Court brings extensive experience as a FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 chair and non-executive director, as well as from her executive career in the insurance sector. She is senior independent director at Next plc and Sage Group plc, and a NED of Admiral Europe Compañia de Seguros. She was chair of Admiral Group plc until 2023 and of WH Smith plc until February 2026. In her executive career, Court was CEO of Europe General Insurance for Zurich Financial Services from 2007 to 2010 and the CEO of Direct Line Group (formerly RBS Insurance) from 2001 to 2006.

Don Robert, CBE, Bupa board chair, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ed and Annette to the Bupa Board, where their expertise will further enhance both our financial services and risk management capabilities.”
