M&S Group plc has announced the appointment of Sean Doyle, the practising chief executive of another leading British brand, BA, to its board. He will become a member of the audit & risk and nomination committees when he joins the board next month.

His appointment follows the announcement that Roger Burnley, former CEO of Asda, will also join the board on 1 December and that Archie Norman’s tenure as chair will be extended.

Doyle is a member of the management committee of British Airways’ parent company, International Airlines Group. He also sits on the leadership council of Business In The Community (BITC), on the government’s Aviation Futures Forum, and serves as vice chair of BritishAmerican Business (BAB).

Doyle first joined British Airways in 1998, where he began his career as a financial analyst. During his time at BA, he has held a number of senior roles in London and the US, and in 2016 was appointed to the airline’s executive leadership team as director of network, Fleet & Alliances. Before becoming chief executive in October 2020, and chair in April 2021, Doyle was CEO of Aer Lingus from January 2019.

Archie Norman commented, “We are delighted to have one of the UK’s leading serving chief executives join our board. M&S is the most public of public companies, and Sean will bring great leadership and strong operating skills to M&S as we prepare for the next phase of reshaping.”
