The Institute of Directors has announced that Irene-marié Esser has been appointed as senior adviser to the IoD Centre for Corporate Governance.

Esser is professor of corporate law and governance at the University of Glasgow, where she also serves as subject-head of commercial law and dean of the graduate school, College of Social Sciences.

Since 2020, she has held the title of extraordinary professor at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and visiting professor at the National Law University, Jodhpur in India. She was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2005.

Esser’s research spans doctrinal and empirical approaches and covers corporate governance, company law, and corporate social responsibility across the UK, EU, and South Africa.
