The government has announced the appointment of Doug Gurr as interim chair of UK regulator the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Gurr, currently the director of the Natural History Museum, replaces Marcus Bokkerink, who will step down after leading CMA since 2022.
Gurr’s experience in the technology sector includes being the former country manager of Amazon UK. He was president of Amazon China from 2014 to 2016. Before this, he had held roles in the civil service, as a partner at consultancy firm McKinsey and Company and as a board director at Asda-Walmart.
Gurr was formerly a non-executive director of the Land Registry and has also been chair of the British Heart Foundation and of the Science Museum Group of national museums.
Jonathan Reynolds, the UK secretary of state for business and trade, said: “The CMA plays a vital role in supporting consumers across the UK, and I want to thank Marcus Bokkerink for his leadership of the board since 2022.
“I’m pleased to welcome Doug as interim chair who will oversee the CMA while we recruit for a permanent position, supporting the leadership of CEO Sarah Cardell.”
