Intermediate Capital Group plc has announced that Sonia Baxendale has been appointed as a non-executive director of the company. When she joins the board at the beginning of next year, she will also serve on its risk and audit committees.

Baxendale holds a number of current roles, including serving as the president and CEO of the Global Risk Institute (GRI) in Canada.

Prior to joining GRI, Baxendale was at CIBC, (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce), where she was president of CIBC Retail Markets. Prior to CIBC, where she spent most of her executive career, Baxendale held various positions with American Express Canada and Saatchi & Saatchi.

Baxendale was named one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada for three years in a row and joined the ranks of the Top 100 Hall of Fame in 2010.
