Irene Dorner, City veteran and currently chair of Control Risks and Taylor Wimpey, will be among the key panellists for the Board Agenda breakfast briefing—Prevailing Against Uncertainty: the board’s role in building resilience.
The event, comprised of two panel sessions, will bring together experts from boardrooms, academia, not-for-profits and consultancy to explore how companies can remain resilient during current economic uncertainties and meet the challenges of managing ESG risk.
Dorner has intimate knowledge of organisational resilience, having served as a non-executive at Rolls Royce and Virgin Money, as well as holding senior roles at HSBC, among them CEO and president of the bank’s US operations. She was once named “most powerful woman in banking” by American Banker magazine.
On the resilience panel will be Carolyn Clarke, founder and CEO of the consultancy Brave, and an expert in risk, assurance and controls. Clarke is also on the board of Starling Bank, where she chairs the ethics and responsible business committee. Clarke is a former head of audit, risk and control at Centrica.
Lastly, the resilience discussion will also include Liam Healy, senior vice president and managing director at Diligent, the boardroom software provider, where he takes an expert view of governance, risk and ESG.
Among the panellists leading discussion of ESG risk will be Ioannis Ioannou, professor of strategy at London Business School and a recognised expert in sustainability and business. Prof Ioannou was recently named among the Top 50 ESG Influencers by Onalytica, the brand consultancy.
Susan Hooper, founding director of Chapter Zero, the advisory organisation equipping company chairs and non-execs with climate change skills, will also join the ESG discussion. Hooper is also a non-executive on the boards of Moonpig.com and Uber UK and is connected to several start-ups involved in carbon capture.
Also among the ESG experts will be Dr Sally Uren, chief executive of Forum for the Future, a leading sustainability not-for-profit. Uren has worked with businesses as diverse as M&S, Bentley Motors and Target.
The last of the ESG experts is Chris Fuggle, global head of sustainability at Mazars, the professional services firm, where he leads the UK sustainability advisory practice.
