Sir Ian Cheshire is to be the new chair of UK commercial property investment giant Land Securities Group PLC. Landsec announced that Sir Ian would join the board as an independent NED and chair designate in March. He will then take over the role of chair of the real estate investment trust in May, when Hogg retires after nine years on the board.
Sir Ian is currently chair of Channel 4, Spire Healthcare Group Plc and UK investment trust Menhaden Resource Efficiency Plc. He will relinquish the chair at Menhaden in May, while remaining on the board as a NED.
He also chairs the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Fund and the corporate climate change coalition We Mean Business.
With an executive career spent in retail—he was group chief executive of Kingfisher until 2015—Sir Ian has also held NED roles at Barclays, Whitbread, and the UK Cabinet Office and Department for Work and Pensions.
Cressida Hogg commented: “On behalf of the board, I am pleased to be welcoming someone of Sir Ian Cheshire’s calibre as my successor. Sir Ian brings extensive and valuable executive and non-executive experience across a range of sectors. I know he will provide the board with strong and effective leadership and will be a great support to Mark [Allan, CEO] and our management team, who welcome his appointment.”
