Budget airline easyJet has announced that its chief operating officer has resigned “to pursue other opportunities”. Bellew has held the role since 2019, and before that was COO at Ryanair. He has also been chief executive of Malaysia Airlines.
In a statement, easyJet’s chief executive, Johan Lundgren, said the airline was “absolutely focused on delivering a safe and reliable operation this summer”.
EasyJet is struggling to operate a full service, and has cancelled thousands of flights this year.
Bellew’s role will be filled by former easyJet interim chief operating officer, David Morgan. Morgan has seven years’ experience with easyJet, including a previous stint as interim COO, and is a board trustee for the KSS Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex.
