The tourism TUI Group’s supervisory board has approved the appointments of Sebastian Ebel as its new chief executive, with Mathias Kiep to become chief financial officer. Ebel moves from his role as CFO of TUI AG, which he has held since 2021. He was a member of the executive board from 2014 to 2020.
Kiep, previously group director controlling, corporate finance & investor relations, takes over the CFO role vacated by Ebel. Before joining TUI in 2011, Kiep had worked in investment banking at Lazard and BNP Paribas, among others.
Dr Dieter Zetsche, chair of the supervisory board of TUI AG, called Ebel “an excellent choice for the new start after the corona crisis. As a member of the executive board, Sebastian Ebel was responsible for the strategic growth areas of hotels, cruises and activities for many years and developed them into the group’s most profitable segments… He is extremely entrepreneurial and has clear strategic and operational ambitions for TUI’s development.”
CEO-designate Ebel said, “Our guests and TUI’s 50,000 colleagues are an enormous motivation for me. We still have some homework to do in dealing with the corona effects, but above all I see many opportunities for TUI.” He praised his predecessor, saying Joussen “saved TUI from split up, formed a new international group and led the company safely through the corona crisis with full energy”.
