Retailer GameStop has appointed Matt Furlong as chief executive officer and Mike Recupero as chief financial officer.
Furlong and Recupero are both former Amazon executives. Furlong was a country leader for Amazon’s Australia business and was previously a technical adviser to the head of Amazon’s North America Consumer business. He will join the business later this month, replacing current CEO George Sherman.
Recupero spent more than 17 years at Amazon, most recently as CFO of the North American Consumer business. His previous roles include CFO of Prime Video and CFO of Amazon’s European Consumer business. Former CFO Jim Bell stepped down in March, and Recupero will take over from the current interim CFO Diana Saadeh-Jajeh next month.
GameStop said in a statement that the appointments “reflect the refreshed board’s focus on building a technology company and investing in growth”.
The company hit the headlines earlier this year when users of social media site Reddit triggered a short squeeze on its stock.
