ByteDance co-founder and head of HR Liang Rubo has been named as the technology company’s new chief executive.
Zhang Yiming, the founder and current CEO, has announced he will “transition to a new role” at the end of 2021, focusing on “long-term strategy, corporate culture, and social responsibility”.
Rubo and Yiming will work together for a six-month transition period.
ByteDance owns social media company TikTok, which appointed Shouzi Chew as its new CEO earlier this month.
Yiming’s departure is the latest in a number of changes among tech leadership in China, as Beijing tightens regulations in the sector.
