The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed Sacha Sadan to the newly created role of director of environment, social and governance.
He will advocate for the FCA’s approach to sustainable finance in the UK and internationally.
Sadan was previously director of investment stewardship at Legal and General Investment Management.
Nikhil Rathi, chief executive of the FCA, said: “The FCA is rightly seen as an international leader on the role financial regulation should play in delivering a more sustainable and greener future. We welcome the recent addition to our remit of a requirement to have regard to the UK target of net zero carbon emissions. I am delighted to have someone of Sacha’s experience and insight joining us to help us accelerate this important work.”
The FCA has also announced two further senior appointments: Ian Alderton as chief information officer and Ian Phoenix as director, intelligence and digital.
Ian Alderton joined the FCA as CIO on an interim basis in January, with his position now made permanent. He is currently “driving an ambitious technological change programme” at the regulator.
Ian Phoenix will be working to enhance the FCA’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities, including the disruption of harmful online activity. He was previously director of citizens’ health technology at NHS Digital, where he helped lead its response to Covid-19.
