Sir Andrew Mackenzie has been appointed as the new chair of Shell.
He will succeed Chad Holliday, who will step down in May after serving as chair for six years.
Sir Andrew joined the board of Shell in October 2020 as a non-executive director. He is a former group CEO of BHP, and was previously head of industrial minerals and diamonds at Rio Tinto. Prior to this he held senior leadership roles at BP over a 22-year career with the company.
A distinguished earth scientist, he was made a fellow of the Royal Society in 2014 and received a knighthood in 2020 for his services to business, science and technology.
Ben van Beurden, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, said: “I am looking forward to working with Andrew. We are emerging from the Covid-19 pandemic with a clear and distinct strategy that I believe will enable us to seize the opportunities presented by the energy transition. I cannot think of anyone better than Andrew to take this role.”
