Cynthia Carroll has joined the board of mining giant Glencore as an independent non-executive director.
Carroll is a former CEO of Anglo American. She previously chaired the board of Vedanta Resources Holdings, and has served on the boards of BP, Sara Lee, Century Aluminum and the International Council on Mining and Metals.
She is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
This latest appointment means a third of Glencore’s nine board directors are female, the others being independent NEDs Patrice Merrin and Gill Marcus.
Glencore announced in December last year that CEO Ivan Glasenberg is to retire during the first half of 2021, and will be replaced by Gary Nagle, currently global head of Glencore’s coal industrial business.
According to the FT, Glencore is also looking for a new chair, as Anthony Hayward approaches the end of his tenure.
